(14) [[underlined]] Conirostrum, [[/underlined]] May 24, 1962, II. May have to cover a large area simply because they can only secure the remnants of food left by the other, larger, species. Interestingly enough, there do not seem to be any Conebills near the C Diglossopis. The hillside is almost continuous scrub at this point. Conebills seem to be birds of the surface of scrub. Sent to preferred areas where the scrub is low, new, & comparatively sparse (e.g. Iñaquito) or relatively thin hedges with grass or cropland on either side (e.g. Atacaso and the A Diglossopis area near Nono). Ca. de Iñaquito Working in usual field this afternoon. 5:45 p.m. An apparently single Conebill utters a single brief song-phrase. This seems to bring a [[male symbol]] [[underlined]] aterrima [[/underlined]] over to investigate, but I can't see what happens afterwards if anything. Apparently no fight. I don't know why but all the Conebills around here have been remarkably quiet since I arrived (4:45 p.m.) Almost as quiet as the [[underlined]] aterrimas [[/underlined]] (see today's notes on [[underlined]] Diglossa [[/underlined]]) [[underlined]] Conirostrum, [[/underlined]] I May 25, 1962 Atacaso Worked at usual site this morning. All observations of Conebills in this area today Incorporated in today's notes on [[underlined]] Diglossa. [[/underlined]]
