Mixed Diglossini, May 19, 1965, II. (51)

heard yesterday.

^[[Ater]] Aters seem to pay no attention to thrush and sub-oscine sounds. Continue Singing no matter how noisy the latter are.

^[[Ater]] 5:33. One Whitestart Song uttered while Aters are in full chorus. Complete overlap. Aters continue. Then Whitestarts Sing again, twice. Again complete overlaps. Then Ater shuts up. Whitestart Sings again. No overlap. Shuts up. Ater Sings again. Shuts up. Whitestart Sings. Ater Sings again. Partial overlap. Then both Ater and Whitestart Sing off and on at irregular intervals [[underlined]] Lots [[/underlined]] of partial and complete overlaps. As far as I can tell, the 2 species are Singing at [[underlined]] random [[/underlined]] viz a viz one another. [[underlined]] Neither stimulating nor inhibiting one another. [[/underlined]]

^[[Ater]] There seem to be a lot of Aters around here. I am certainly hearing more than I have seen before. Also at least several Whitestarts Singing different areas Presumably 2 or 3 pairs.

5:44. I have yet to hear any Songs which I recognized as CC. Or any Albi type phrases.

^[[Scan]] ^[[Ater]] Hear first Scan-type Twitters 5:46. Overlapping both Aters and Whitestarts. Then hear Scan Song (i.e. indeterminate series "chuk" Notes) in distance. Overlapping both Ater and Whitestart Songs. Then both Ater and Whitestart shut up. Scan continues for a few seconds. Then shuts up. Then another Scan begins to Sing. Alone for some seconds. Then Whitestart utters one phrase. Complete overlap. Whitestart shuts up. Scan continues.

^[[Scan]] First Scan aerial display 5:49.
