Mixed Diglossini, July 27, 1965, V. (78)

overlapped by Scan "chuk" Song.

^[[Albi Cy MSGH Scan]] NOTE: At no time, when the Albis, Cys, or medium small green hummingbird have been here, have there been any Scans close by. All Scans up on perches isolated trees 50-100 yds away. I am not sure that the Scan have even been able to [[underlined]] see [[/underlined]]the other birds.

^[[Cy Scan 174]] 7:48. More Cy Songs overlapped by Scan "Chuk" Songs.

^[[Cy Albi MSGH]] Cys gradually come closer. Then I see the [[male symbol]] Albi again! Silent. Feeding on clusters tubular red flowers. Perhaps 30 ft from the Cys. Also see medium-small green hummingbird in area. Perhaps 30 ft from [[male symbol]] Albi. But somewhat closer to Cys.

Cys continue to advance. And [[male symbol]] Albi moves off. Apparently retreating before Cys (altho they have shown no obvious, overt hostility toward it.

Dominance hierarchy here presumably is Cy > Albi > medium-small green hummingbird.

^[[Cy Albi Scan MSGH]] Then I lose sight of the medium-small green hummingbird. A few seconds later, [[underlined]] another [[/underlined]] hummingbird, [[underlined]] apparently Scan [[/underlined]], flies through area. Very rapidly. Does not feed. Ignores Cy approximately 5-10 ft away.

Cys continue to Sing from time to time. Also Scans. Complete overlap. Then Scans shut up. Cys utter a few more phrases. Then move off and fall silent.

^[[Cy Scan]] Overlaps Cy and Scan Songs here probably is completely random.

^[[ [[underlined]]Scan[[/underlined]] Gen]] It also looks as if the [[underlined]] Scans here are not members of the local diglossine complex in any way. [[/underlined]]

^[[Scan]] Scans Singing "chuk" Songs again 8:06 a.m. NDWA.
