Mixed Diglossini, Aug. 14, 1965, II

[] Coer Cy []

g with "Zeeee zeee" Notes probably were uttered by Coer! No songs beginning with "Tut tut" certainly were uttered by Cy. It is interesting, therefore, that they occurred in such very close proximity to one another (probably spatially, certainly temporally) This is very reminiscent of the peculiar series of songs heard yesterday, above Uribe. Probably also reminiscent of series of songs heard near Agua Bonita a few months ago. Such series would suggest that the sound of one species singing stimulates the other species to sing. It probably is true that all species of Diglossa stimulate one another to some extent.

But the stimulatory effect may be particularly great in the Cy-Coer relationship (at least when individuals of the two species are close together). Both yesterday and today, it seems to have been a case of Coer stimulating Cy. Was this also true at Agua Bonita?

Note: The songs heard at Uribe yesterday, which I would now interpret as a Coer-Cy "duet" were up hill from road. Perhaps there was some vegetation there which resembled "dwarf forest".

It also is conceivable that Coers are less closely confined to relatively low vegetation when not in breeding condition.

Aha! Same flock back again ca. 8:10 (see description elsewhere). And again a Coer (presumably same individual) is with flock at least briefly!!! Are the Coer(s) really allo gregarious here???

They go along ride path.

9:28 Region of low, thick scrub, with lots of bamboo, more or less surrounded by tall, mature, USF trees. See single Coer [[check mark]], 40 ft up in tall tree. Picking insects off leaves. Also singing. Most of its phrases are identical with those of Coers at Muncluque I.E. 3 "Zeeeee" type notes, followed by brief Twitter, ending in descending "Slur" or "Flourish
