Mixed Diglossini, Sept. 20, 1962, II 15

[[margin]] Albi Glor [[/margin]]

songs. Then more Albi songs. For a while the 2 species alternate brief snatches of song quite regularly. Little or no overlap. Then silence 6:30 pm.

[[margin]] Glor [[/margin]]
I heard the Glor songs quite well this morning. Usually comme ça “Za zawee zawee zawee zawee zawa” Number of notes quite variable. Song never gives effect of being composed of regular doublets (altho I am pretty sure that doublets are the basic note), simply because it is very twittering or warbling (ie. the pitch of the doublets and parts of doublets seem to vary considerably). These songs are not really reminiscent of the songs of lafresnayei at Quito.

[margin]] Glor [[/margin]]
In quite an appreciable number of cases, the terminal “wa” is replaced by a brief R “raaaaa.” A similarity to Albi!

All pretty quiet now, 6:35 am.

[[margin]] Albi [[/margin]]
Arrive edge “pocket”, 6:45, to find Albis (or Buff. throats) singing all over the place. But they shut up fairly soon.

[[margin]] Cy [[/margin]]
A single cyanea feeding on flowers top of tree about 30 ft off ground. Utters several bursts of song. More or less as usual. Except: One phrase seemed to contain brief R “freeeeee” just before end (like some songs aterrima). Preliminary notes usually “Tseet”s. (Most of the CN’s uttered by birds here are more like “Tseet” than “Tsit”, I think).

[[margin]] Albi Cy [[/margin]]
Is this species also trying to develop an R like Albi? After cyanea shuts up, I hear R's by nearby Albis.

[[margin]] ???? [[/margin]]
Then, 7:52, I think I see a single CC! In top of same tree as cyaneae, but at least 10-15 ft away. Flies off immediately.

[[margin]] Cy [[/margin]]
Then there is another outburst cyanea ("Cy") song. Same tree as before. Actually there seem to be 2 Cys in this tree. One visible, one not.

Transcription Notes:
comme ça = french for "like this" **lafresnayei - this is the correct spelling that we have to type. **Lafresnaya lafresnayi liriope - seen in Columbia. OMG that bird might be aterrima! It has been mentioned in previous pages but no one seemed to be able to transcribe it correctly! Google diglossa aterrima!!!
