Mixed Diglossini, Sept 20, 1962, VII 20

[] Gen Albi ? []
here seem to be less specialized than the inter-specific relations among Quito Diglossini, it is possible that Albi has reached this region only relatively recently.

I wonder if the R-like song of the local Coereba might be functionally correlated with R's of the songs of local species of Diglossa. Does Coereba overlap with Albi anywhere?????

Back to hotel in afternoon.

5:10 pm. See a single ♀ or juv. Diglossa feeding on Bougainvillea outside my window sort of greenish gray above (much the color of ♀ Red-legs). Streaked below. Definite light wing bar and light edges to tertials. Almost certainly ♀ baritula. Quite silent and alone. Feeding on flowers in usual diglossine way.

[] BQ[[/margin]]
This bunch of Bougainvillea is only about 100 yards from where I have seen BQ's.

The ♀ or juv. Diglossa seen in the hotel garden on September 15th (the one described as "yellowish green") was probably baritula too.

5:27. There is at least one BQ in the Eucalyptus-like trees here as usual.

If the BQ has retained the inhibitions of the Diglossini (as it almost certainly has), this would explain why its reactions to Dacnisii are so peculiar. It is inhibited from approaching most of them because they are similar to Digossini in appearance. It may react positively to Green Honeycreepers, at times, simply because the latter is the least diglossine-like (the least restless and, probably more important, the least blue).

[] BQ []
Its general behavior toward Green Honeycreepers would suggest that it is both strongly attracted to the latter and yet
