Mixed Diglossia, Sept. 3, 1965, III

Go to San Cristobal later in the morning. Going to look for the Páramo de Zumbador in the afternoon.

Arrive site on road to Queniquea 8490 ft 2:40 pm. Mixed sunshine and cloud. Fog level is not far above us.

SEE TODAY'S NOTES ON GENERAL MIXED FLOCK.

[[margin]] Cy Inter Glor Cy [[/margin]]
3:25 pm. Area where very large flock, including Cy and Inters seen a few minutes earlier. After all or most of the birds have passed, hear a few typical Glor Song phrases. NODWAH. Glor shuts up. Then I hear some typical Cy Song phrases. NODWAH. Then Cy shuts up.

Go on to another area 8975 ft. Edge fog layer. Light rain falling

[[margin]] Laf? [[/margin]]
4:19. Hear what sounds like brief burst low intensity (i.e. slow) Laf Song Slightly downhill. Bird apparently in USF. (This area might almost be described as transitional between USF and AS.) NODWAH.

There certainly don't seem to be many flowers by road here.

This forest here obviously very, very humid. Perhaps more "moss" on trees than anywhere else I have ever been!

And the area is only about 100ft below edge real páramo, at least in some places.

4:32. Same place. Another, very brief match of what is probably Laf song. Again NODWAH.

[[margin]] Laf? Albi? Laf? [[/margin]]
Then hear what might be Albi R, rather nearby. NODWAH

Then more presumed Laf Song downhill. NODWAH.

[[margin]] Laf [[/margin]]
Then I go further along road. To area where fog is thick. And here I hear long stretch of unmistakable Laf song. NODWAH

[[margin]] Laf [[/margin]]
NOTE: There is a long "cut", a cleared, grassy area, thru forest here. This probably continues down below road, in general area, where first presumed Laf was heard this afternoon. I.E. it is quite possible that the Lafs here actually are in edge.
