Mixed Diglossini, Aug. 22, 1965, V

on some of the same species of red tubular flowers as the Lafs.

[] Blue-wing? 48 Laf []
Speak of the devil! 7:55 am. See one of these large hummingbirds feeding red tubular flowers 4 ft up in bush AS. A Laf ✓ suddenly appears and supplants the hummingbird! Silent. Hummingbird flies away without resistance. The Laf feeds on exactly same clump of flowers! Then flies off.

[] Black 49 []
8:01. Only a few yards farther on. See single Black Diglossa ✓ (presumably Humer) chased and swooped at by very small hummingbird! Both birds silent.

[] Cy 51 Black Gen []
One minute later same area see single Cy ✓ being chased by Black Diglossa ✓. Chase silent. (Again) it was my impression that the Black Diglossa probably was a Humer rather than a Laf — but I can't be sure about this.
In any case, it is obvious that Black-Blue hostilities still exist here! Black eventually stops chasing. Cy continues on a few more yards. Then flies into bush where Laf-large hummingbird encounter occurred only a few minutes ago. Feeds on red tubular flowers. Silent. Absolutely alone. Nothing else appears to "escort", supplant, or attack Cy! Cy eventually flies off by itself.

[] Cy Laf []
So Cy and Laf territories (still) are at least partly overlapping here! And the two species are competing for food!

[] Coer 52 Laf []
8:12 am. Same area. Hear Coer Songs. NODWA. Coer shuts up. Laf Sings. NODWA.

Then see Laf ✓ Singing. Perched 6 ft up. Exposed. Crown quite smooth. Wings slightly drooped. Belly slightly fluffed. (But general effect is not very Pect-like.)

Deleted 'ing' at beginning, it's part of word for previous page; added 'left' for margins removed some formatting annotations (e.g. underline) per transcription instructions;
