Mixed Diglossini, Mar. 8, 1966, VII. [[cirlcled]] 19 [[/circled]]

[[margin]] Ater [[/margin]] [[underlined]] must be a very high intensity boundary dispute. And it is very interesting that it is [[double underlined]] not [[/double underlined]] accompanied by more elaborate display [[/underlined]] !!! As far as I can tell, all the birds are silent. (But there is a torrent near by and I might not hear soft or medium sounds.) One or more of the inds. showed a trace of TV with Belly-fluffing, two or three times, but nothing more.

Eventually the birds separate. A pair going in one direction and a single ind. in another.

[[margin]] Ater [[/margin]]
NOTE: All the birds involved in this dispute (and all other Aters seen so far) were adult. This is evidence that Ater pairs are [[underlined]] not [[/underlined]] usually composed of one adult and one juvenile.

[[margin]] Lerbia [[/margin]]
During the dispute, a single green hummingbird with a long tail (presumably [[underlined]] Lerbia [[/underlined]]) came and sat about 8 ft from the combatants for a minute or so. No overt reaction between the 2 species. Then the hummer flew away.

[[margin]] Scan [[/margin]]
Later, a single Scan flew over the combatants (about 6 ft up). No Swoop or any other overt reaction between the two species.

[[margin]] Ater Scan [[/margin]] Some time after the fight, one of members of the Ater pair landed in bush about 3-4 ft from perched Scan. Again no overt reaction.

[[margin]] Scan [[/margin]]
NOTE: There are [[underlined]] at least [[/underlined]] 3 Scan inds. in this immediate area.

[[margin]] Scan [[/margin]]
8:55. Scan Singing again. NODWAH

[[margin]] Cinn [[/margin]]
Walking along path, see more single Cinns and ^[[2 checkmarks]] Aters alone

[[margin]] Ater [[/margin]]
NOTE: [[underlined]] Territories of Aters, Cinns, and Scans here must be completely overlapping in at least some cases. [[/underlined]]

[[margin]] Scan Ater [[/margin]] 9:00 a.m. Scan stops Singing [[underlined]] Immediately [[/underlined]], I hear some Ater Twitters!!! Ater stops. [[underlined]] Immediately [[/underlined]], Scan resumes Scan stops.
