Mixed Diglossini, Feb. 11, 1964, III
[[circled]] 11 [[/circled]]

[[margin]] Uni Cy [[/margin]] Then Uni begins to sing again same place. Then Cy begins to sing, only 30-40 ft down hill. Complete overlap at first. Then Uni shuts up. Cy continues. Then shuts up.

[[margin]] Gen [[/margin]] NOTE: It seems that inter-specific overlaps of song are becoming less frequent and less complete now that all 3 local species have sung an appreciable number of tunes (also their songs are becoming less frequent now)

[[margin]] [[underlined]] Gen [[/underlined]] [[/margin]] The situation here, with broad overlaps of both territory or home range and song, seems to be exactly the opposite of the Bari-Brun-CC situation down below.

[[margin]] Gen [[/margin]] The same thing seems to have occurred here this morning as at Quito a couple of weeks ago (and Farma last week). There was a big burst of song by [[underlined]] carbonaria [[/underlined]] i.l. ssp at dawn. Much less Cy or [[underlined]] lafresnayei [[/underlined]] ssp. song at dawn. But then the Bruns stopped (more or less) early, while the Cys and the [[underlined]] lafresnayei [[/underlined]] subspecies continued singing with some appreciable frequency for some time longer.

All quiet now 7:10

There may be a general rule of sorts, governing the frequency of overlaps of song. Early in the morning, there are relatively few overlaps if all the species are singing frequently - lots of overlaps if some of the species are not singing frequently. Later in the morning, as the frequency of song in general [[underlined]] starts [[/underlined]] to decrease, there may be relatively few overlaps even if some of the species are singing much less frequently than others. Still later, when all song is relatively rare, there may be a relatively large number of overlaps simply because the birds aren't paying much attention to one another any more.

[[margin]] CC [[/margin]] Why are there no CC's here (as above Palea)?? Too wet??

[[margin]] Cy [[/margin]] See 2 Cys together again 7:18. One singing. Both fly off. Singing stops.
