Mixed Diglossini, Apr. 5, 1963, VII.  [[circled]] 27 [[/circled]]

[[margin]] Brun [[/margin]] on top of the bird before it became aware of my presence. It uttered "Taz[[underlined]]eee[[/underlined]] taz[[underlined]]eee[[/underlined]] taz[[underlined]]eee[[/underlined]] taz[[underlined]]eee[[/underlined]]" as it flew. This is presumably purely hostile song, with exape predominant.

[[margin]] Brun Pect [[/margin]] If the behavior of these birds this morning was typical of their subspecies, I can certainly understand why Pects are relatively rare!!

The usual relationship between the songs of the 2 forms may be represented by the following diagram.

[[diagram]]
[[key]] Brun = [[4 short squiggle lines with breaks in between]]
Pect = [[long continuous squiggle line]]
time -> [[/key]]

The general layout of territories may be shown in this way.

[[margin]] Brun Pect Cy [[/margin]]
[[top and bottom have long continuous lines with squiggle with "Ridge" written on top of the lines]]
[[under ridge is a squiggle line with 2 straight edges on each side going in a slight bend down the middle from top ridge to below the bottom ridge with "Path" written to the right of it]]
[[to the left of the path is a dotted dividing the area between the ridges approximately in half - the top area is labeled "Pect Territory" and the bottom is labeled "Brun Territory"]]
[[in the Pect Territory there is a blue dot right above the dotted line with an arrow pointing to the left. There is also a green dot slightly above the dotted line to the right of the blue dot]]
[[There is a red dot in the middle of the Brun Territory]]
[[To the right of the path between the ridges are the words "Possible 2nd Brun Territory"]]
