Omaha, those here, are alarmed 
lest this country be taken from 
them in like manner.  
I can see no good to result 
from removing the 
Indians down there.  
This hard knot I think 
could be untied by putting 
them under the civil 
law, and abolishing the 
hereditary Chiefship.  As far 
as I can judge, they only 
help to defend their 
tribe; have no influence for good,
