Dear Mr. Perls:

You will find herein the photograph of the painting by VAN GOGH, which I spoke to you about over the telephone.

This painting is recorded under No. 379 in the large four volume book on this artist by de la Faille, 1928.

You asked me whether it was in the smaller edition, but not having it handy and not wishing to postpone the mailing of this photograph I am unable to answer you.

Here follows a description:

Epoque de Paris, 1887 (he reached Arles in February of 1888 - in other words one of the very last works of that period)

"Still Life" - Apples" No. 379

A low wicker basket containing ten "calville" apples. It rests on a white tablecloth shaded with blue. General effect very light creamy yellow-white. A few accents of red and green on the fruit.

Signed lower left "Vincent '87" - Height 18" x width 21-5/8"

It is here at present in a very well known New York collection, bearing one of the old New York names, and may I repeat that I am far from sure to be able to obtain it on consignment, but shall try to do so should you feel your client is truly and seriously interested.

Otherwise I would prefer to abstain, in view of the protracted negotiations necessary to obtain this, and other difficulties connected with it.

Good luck.

Yours very sincerely,
(Germain Seligman)
