February 4th., 1941. Dear Mr. Stendahl: Thank you very much for sending me the transparency of your Rouault. Unfortunately I do not think this painting would be of interest to us and therefore am returning the transparency to you, herein. Now as regards the Gauguin: I will have to write you about it a little bit later date and just hope for the best that you are not urgently in need of the painting at the present writing. In other words, that your possibilities of doing something with the painting would, say, be just as good three or four weeks from now as they are today. There are certain complicated situations regarding this painting which force me to write you in this matter about a delayed decision. However, I will do my very best for you. It was nice seeing you again and I sincerely hope that after all our conversations and year of knowing one another that we might really be able to do some business together one of these days. With best wishes, Yours very sincerely, (Robert M. Levy) Earl Stendahl, Esq., Stendahl Galleries, 3006 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, Cal.
