Dear Dr. Kang:

The Smithsonian Institution is in the process of establishing a revolving account with the Bank of Korea. This account will be known as "Smithsonian Korean Research Project". An initial deposit of $6,286.00 is being made with reimbursements to follow as needed.

There will be considerable field work and expenses in conducting this project. The checking account is to be maintained for the purpose of reimbursing the local personnel (scientists, assistants, drivers, secretaries), a few equipment items (2 Altimeters) and maintenance of vehicles. A memo will follow concerning reporting procedures.

You have been named as one of 3 individuals authorized to sign checks against this account.

This letter should be used to identify you to the Bank of Korea in order to sign the signature cards and any other forms necessary to designate you as a drawer of this account.

The Smithsonian wishes you every success in this project. If any problems arise please do not hesitate to contact us via the most convenient means.

Sincerely,
