2. Pests and Diseases.

The Institute would conduct surveys and research on pests and diseases of crop, trees, animals and man. Studies on population ecology of important pests and diseases will be carried out to provide information for pest and disease control programs of governmental agencies and private organizations. The programs would also include biological and ecological studies on parasites and predators of pests and vectors to provide vital information for natural and biological control of pests. The program would also include the identification of pests, plant diseases and vectors. 

3. Conservation and Ecology

The Institute would conduct studies on all aspects of Korean ecosystems, including the component parts (plants, animals, man, soils, climate) and their interrelationships. Knowledge acquired from these studies will be invaluable for planning long-term solutions of forestation, erosion, wildlife management, soil conservation, and other important programs. The programs would also include surveys of soil fertility, soil chemistry and soil biota.

4. Geological and Mineral Resources.

The Institute would include programs to study geological sedimentation and mineral deposits of Korea. Programs would also include paleontology, micropaleontology, pollen analysis, paleoecology, and minerology. Information aquired from these programs will be of great importance to metallurgy and the mining industry.

5. Meteorology and Bioclimatology

The Institute would include programs to study local weather and climate of Korea related to biological and ecological research in close collaboration with the Central Weather Bureau of the Korean Government.

6. Information Center. 

The Institute would be a central storage of basic information in areas of botany, zoology, entomology, ichthyology, plant pathology, biology, aquatic biology, ecology,
