Mr. Germain Seligmann,
President
Jacques Seligmann & Co., Inc.
5 East 57th Street
New York, N. Y.

Dear Mr. Seligman:

I refer to your letter of October 30, 1944, addressed to the American Consul General, regarding the transfer of certain funds derived from the sale of the painting "La Repasseuse" from Britain to the United States.

We have asked the Bank of England for information on the status of the application which you indicate was made on your behalf by Wildenstein and Co., Ltd., and have been informed that the application has been held in suspense pending receipt of further details about the transaction. The Bank of England requested such details from Wildenstein and Co. but has received no reply. Until this additional information is furnished, it is doubtful that any positive action will be taken on your application. I understand that on December 7, 1944, the Bank of England replied to your letter of inquiry concerning this matter.

Very truly yours,
