Dear Mr. Seligman,

many thanks for your letter of the 19th Sept. We went to Berlin & Vienna to look at the museums, afterwards to Zermatt where we had a most pleasant holiday.

As to No.29 of Sotheby's sale on 14th October, I remember having seen the bronze before I went on holiday. It is a good German bronze, and certainly close to Vischer. The valuation as far as I know is [[pound sterling symbol]]800-1200.

As regards the Riemenschneider, this seems to be a newly discovered piece. You will see from the catalogue that it was exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum for a couple of years. The borderline between Riemenschneider himself and his school is very difficult to assess. Other pieces by this artist may be finer in execution, but it is most attractive. I understand that Sotheby's valuation is [[pound sterling symbol]]3000. Should I hear anything further I shall let you know. If you are interested in either of these sculptures I shall have to make special arrangements, as the sale is on a Jewish holiday. Would you therefore be good enough to let me have your instructions by Wednesday, 12th October, at the latest.

I am sending you under separate cover a photograph of a drawing by Simon Vouet which has been offered to me. Without doubt this drawing corresponds in size, style and type of paper to the one exhibited in the Louvre at the same time as the Poussin Exhibition. The price is [[pound sterling symbol]]220.

With best regards, I remain,

Yours sincerely,
