Messrs. Jacques Seligmann & Co.Inc.,
5 East 57th Street,
New York 22, NY, USA.

Dear Mr. Seligman,

Before taking up again our pleasant business correspondence my wife and I should like to thank you and Mrs. Seligman for the most enjoyable hour we spent with you in your beautiful home. We especially appreciated it that you made it possible for us to visit you in spite of the very short notice.

After my return from New York I had to leave again for a short trip and it is only today that I can thank you for your two letters. Enclosed please find a photograph of what I think is a very beautiful drawing by G. Dore. The technique is charcoal with black and brown wash. The drawing is in perfect condition, the price I am asked is [[pound sterling symbol]]225, plus 10% commission for me.

Since the late M. Gilou was a friend of mine I am well acquainted with the collection and can already answer a few of your questions.

[[underline]] No. 88 [[/underline]], the Gothic Mirror - this is to be treated with a certain caution, I certainly would not like to recommend it. The piece which I like by far best is [[underline]] No.87 [[/underline]], which I always tried to buy from M. Gilou, but which he was unwilling to sell. I cannot now remember whether the head of the child was broken, but it is certainly old, and I would not be surprised if this piece would fetch [[pound sterling symbol]]2500- [[pound sterling symbol]]3000. [[underline]] No.58 [[/underline]]is very attractive but too close to the Verrochio in Washington. It is of course a most decorative object but should only be bought as such.

The next best piece which you did not mention is [[underline]] No.70 [[/underline]], which is very beautiful. It is very small and part of the tail is missing, but it is full of force. [[underline]] No.69 [[/underline]] is as far as I remember a good piece, but I should like to have another look. [[underline]] No. 57 [[/underline]] is a very quaint statue and I sincerely hope it is old but I somehow do not feel that you would like it.

You will hear from me in due course again. With best regards,

Yours
