Dear Germain,

I have to thank you for your cable of the 7th February and your letters of the 4th, 7th and 8th February. With regard to the [[underlined]] Alma-Tadema [[/underlined]] I took the drawing out of its frame and found that the sheet was bigger than it showed under the mount and had been glued on the paper very badly. It would have involved a great deal of work to put it right and I therefore refrained from bidding for it. It fetched Gns. 55.

As to the [[underlined]] Corneille [[/underlined]] and [[underlined]] Leprince [[/underlined]] draings, Sotheby's sale of the 27th February, I did not like these at all and the attribution to Corneille is without any foundation.

I looked today at the drawings you list in your letter of February 8th - Christie's sale of the 25th - and again I am afraid there is nothing I could recommend.

I saw the[[pencil underline]] [[typed underline]] Prud'hon[[/typed underline]] Nude - Sotheby's 27th March[[/pencil underline]]- and asked for a photograph which I hope I shall get soon. The drawing is very good and will fetch a high price. There are [[pencil underline]] two sales of drawings, one at Sotheby's and[[/pencil underline]] one at [[pencil underline]]Christie's[[/pencil underline]] at the [[pencil underline]]end of March [[/pencil underline]] with apparently good drawings and since you will not be in New York during March, I think it would be a good idea to have the catalogue forwarded to you as soon as they arrive at your office.

Many thanks for sending me the catalogue of the Cloisters exhibition, I am very much looking forward to it.

With best regards,

Yours
