Dear Herbert:

Going over some of the catalogues of recent auctions at Christie's I noticed that on March 28th was sold,

#98, B.A. BAUDOUIN, "An Allegory of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette"

As per the list of selling prices, it would have brought $955, and been bought by your friend, Mr. Kaufmann. Would you mind much calling on him with the purpose of examining the gouache, and inquiring his selling price.

This price of $955. is extremely low, for a gouache by BAUDOUIN, but of course I have no idea of its condition. It would have to be in a pristine state. Off-hand, judging from the very small reproduction, I have every reason to believe that it is by BAUDOUIN (?).

Would you be good enough to let me hear from you on this topic.

I assume I shall hear from you momentarily about the LAFAGE at Colnaghi's, and as regards the RICCIO head at Sotheby's.

With best regards,

Yours,

Germain Seligman
