September 21, 1972

Dear Herbert:

You will have hardly received my yesterday's letter when these lines will reach you. I am writing to call your attention to an ad of Sotheby's which appeared in Burlington, September 1972, page iv, referring to an auction, "Works of Art, Furniture, Silver, etc.", October 12th.

A French bronze, bottom left of the page, a figure of a Harpie, (foot of a candelabra, late 16th century) looks extremely interesting.

However, from the smallness of the photograph and the angle, it is impossible to get a correct impression. Furthermore, I d not understand how it could be a foot of a candelabra, but nevertheless I assume it is [[underlined]] all in the round [[/underlined]]. Would you be good enough to let me have an opinion of it, as well as a valuation.

You realize of course that I have received no catalogue referring to this item.

Thanking you in advance, and with warm regards,

Yours,

Germain Seligman
