During the period of the Six Dynasty, Buddhism was very flourishing. A great movement was on to manufacture Buddhist images and people were free to make contributions or donations to the Temples.

From the inscriptions this was manufactured by a certain son of a well-to-do family and dedicated to the gods for speedy restoration of xhis parent sufferring from serious illness.

It is gilded all over and wrought in the best kind of workmanship.  The fact that there were onl[[strikethrough]] x [[/strikethrough]]y a few images manufactured in that period that are of large size as this, is worthy of notice.

This was excavated from Shensi, being a part of the coat of mail worn by warriors of old. The heavy mould was due to its long cnotact with earth underground. Art lovers are delighted to possess this. [[/blue type]]
