5599. (2389) One Tea Bowl, with slightly flaring mouth.
Chien. "Tenmoku."  Chinese.

Hard, dense, buff paste.
(NS 115) Rich, lustrous brown glaze, finely mottled with lighter tones, in imitation of rabbit's fur, with shrinkage marks.
Large mass of kiln slag attached to outer wall near base; several cracks in rim.
Circular, basal ring, slightly recessed, and unglazed within.
Intact; without repair.
Height, 2 1/2". Diameter at mouth, 4 7/16".
Excavated at the sites of ancient kilns in the Province of Fukien.

Hard, dense, buff paste.
Rich, greenish-gray glaze, with brown marking (NS 121) resembling crackle; glaze on exterior ends in five tear-drops; many blisters.
Circular, basal ring, slightly recessed, unglazed within.
Intact; without repair.
Height,; 2". Diameter at mouth, 4 1/4".
Excavated at the sites of ancient kilns in the Province of Fukien.

Hard, dense, buff paste.
Dark olive-gray glaze with large area of rich (NS 118) cream-colored mottling; blisters and prominent shrinkage marks.
On outer surface, near rim, a considerable area in the glaze is deadened.
Circular, basal ring, slightly recessed, unglazed within.
Intact; without repair.
Height; 2". Diameter at mouth, 4 3/4".
Excavated at the sites of ancient kilns in the Province of Fukien.
