23rd The southerly gale continued all night and today Flowing over 50 miles an hour part of the time. The Southwind yesterday caused a very high tide this morning which broke up the ice along shore and from half a mile offshore to as far as can be seen is open water dotted hem and then by floating fragments of ice. The temperatures remained several degrees above freezing and the snow thaws rapidly. 24th Cold and snowing most of the for noon temperatures gale all day from the southwest - below freezing all day - 25th Snowing nearly all the afternoon - cold, with the southerly gale still continuing. 26th The southerly gale ended early in a.m. several snow showers during the day - temperature 24° to 32° - 27th Gale from the North last night - cold and windry.
