the main difference I have noticed is that its size is about the same as that of B. leucopariea but that it wants the white collar below the black on neck and the white of abdomen extends considerably farther up the abdomen & sometimes far up on the breasts while in B. leucopariea the white on abdomen is limited to the abdomen alone The [[strikethrough]]brown[[/strikethrough]] gray feathers on the breast of the new form are much lighter than on B. leucopariea A number of flocks of Branta nigricans passed over and I was much pleased to see two flocks of Somateria fischeri and upon my return to Kotlik in the evening was gratified to find that my workman had been more successful than I and had secured three fine males of this rare bird. He said they were flying plentifully for a short time in large flocks. The geese although still flying in flocks have many of them paired as is shown by their actions for let a flock pass over and one killed and another bird will separate itself from the rest and appear
