Transcription
Know all men by these presents that we Charles Gardner, John Freemen, William Brown and, Anthony Brown Freeman of color, do hereby obligate and Bind ourselves to Live with and Labor for Benjamin Whitehead, on his Plantation In Franklin County Miss, [[strikethough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] year 1865 to submit ourselves to his order and that of his appointed agent or manager to work and Labor faithfully for his Benefit to conduct ourselves in a proper and worthy manner not to Leave the premises without his permission or that of his agent and In all things to render such obedience and acts as Duty requires And In Consideration of the above obligation we are to Recieve wages at the rate of five dollars per month from the first day of January 1865 (Except Antony who is only to receive wages at the above rate from the 15th day of May 1865) to be furnished wholesome Rations Comfortable Clothing, Quarters and Medical attendance In testimony whereof we have here set our hands and affixed our seals this 16th Day of August AD 1865 B.
