Letter Book p 744, 745, 746. | | Elijah Avery of Morgantown NC requests (Jan 28 1866) transportation for his son now in the employ of Mr Edward Blackwell of Hyde Co who he thinks must owe him a sufficient amount to pay his expenses then RR fare Salisbury Feb 2d 1866 Respectfully approved and forwarded by Col C A Cilly Supt | Raleigh NC Feb 5th 1866 respectfully referred to Capt F A Seely Supt E District NC for remarks by Command Col Whittlesey Asst Com Beecher Lt & AAA Genl Recd E Dist NC Feb 6 1866 [[stamp]] THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF THE UNITED STATES [[/stamp]] New Berne Feb 6th 1866 Respectfully referred to Lt A Coats Asst Supt Sub Dist Washington for investigation and such action as the interests of the Bureau may require He will report his actions to these Head Quarters | | Suffolk Jan 27 1866. Stone J N Bvt Maj and Asst Supt. States at length the complaints of two Col'd men named Nat Jenkins and And. Wiggins. Norfolk, Va Jan 28th 1866 Respectfully referred to Col O Brown Asst Com Va with request that the parties complained of by Major Stone be arrested and tried for misdemeanors by the proper tribunal this same man Langston has been committing other outrages on the people in the adjoining counties of this State which should be answered for by him. A L Flagg Capt & Supt. | 27 [[stamp]] THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF THE UNITED STATES [[/stamp]] Richmond, Va Feb 1st 1866 Respectfully forwarded by Col Brown Asst Com Va to Col Whittlesey Asst Com NC with the request that the parties herin complained of may be arrested and handed over to the Officers of the Bureau in Suffolk for trial Raleigh NC Feb 5th 1866 Respectfully referred to Capt F.A Seely Supt E District by Command of Col Whittlesey Asst Com Beecher AAA Genl Recd E District NC Feb 6th 1866 New Berne Feb 6th 1866 Respectfully referred to Lt Geo L Hawley, Asst Supt Gates & Hertford Cos for investigation and such action as the interests of the Bureau my require. Seely Suffolk E District Respectfully returned March 1st 1866 to Capt Seely by Lt Gen L Hawley with information that an order has been issued to the Chief of Police of Gates Co to arrest & turn over to the Agent of the Bureau at Suffolk Va [[?]] Langston. Also orders to restore the wife of Nat Jenkins to him & to prevent similar outrage in future Respectfully returned March 8th by Capt Seely with reference to above endorsement. | | Case of Rosetta vs John Willey Brought from page 10th | Respectfully returned Feb 28th 1866 to Capt Seely by Lt Geo S Hawley with information that the parties mentioned, were summoned & stated under oath that they knew nothing of the whipping of Rosetta Willey. Respectfully returned March 2nd by Capt Seely with reference to above endorsement. |
