Madison Morgan County Geo. To the Hon Secretary of War. Dear Sir It is under circumstances the most trying that I write you these few lines. The facts of the case are simply these. I have been working for my former master E.W. Thrasher ever since our freedom has been declared, with the exception of the years of 1867 & 1870, and I purchased a tract of land from him of 80 acres more or less for the sum of Five Hundred Dollars, payable in three years the time run out Jany 1st 1871
