Capt & Chf Q.M. &c 333 Recvd. back Oct 3rd 1867. Bureau R F and A.L. 3rd Div: 1st S. Dist Va Suffolk Va Sept 18th/67. Respectfully returned to Bvt Maj J.H. Remington S.A.C. with the enclosed transportation Miss S.L. Daffin having gone to Philadelphia before the arrival of her transportation on acct. of ill health as will be seen by the enclosed letter, from Miss Daffin. (Sg'd) J.W. Norfolk Sept 29th 1867. He (John Hofler) did not recollect the date of his enlistment, but said that it was about the middle of August 1864.- that he enlisted or volunteered in Norfolk & joined the Command at City Point - his discharge is in the office of the 2nd Auditor for collection of his U.S. Bounty - his Agent here neglected to keep a record of the date of Enlistment & Discharge. I have no doubt that he is the identical man he represents himself to be Sgd Jno. B Upshurre Bu R. F & A.L. Hd Qrs: Asst Comr. Va. Richmond Va Oct 3rd 67. Respectfully forwarded to Maj Gen'l O.O. Howard, 421 Com'r. The John Hofler on our lists, was mustered into service in Sept 1864. We have no means of knowing whether the bounty is due the within named man, as he has forgotten the date of his Muster into Service, and his discharge paper is on file in the 2nd Auditors office.
