Qrs) soliciting such information as he can obtain in regard to the within case. O. Brown Bvt Brig Genl Vols Asst Comr 451 D.156.3.V.67 War Dept. & Bu. &. 395. Recd. back Oct. 10th 67 Bu. R.F.& A.L. Office A.S.A.C. 4th Div. 10th S. Dist. Va. Warrenton, Va. Oct. 7th 1867. Respectfully returned with the information that the within named children were on the Gov't Farms in St. Mary's County Md. - at the time I took command of and relieved Lieut. E.F. O. Brien. He said their mother died on the farm - that at her death she gave the children to him. - He said their father had died in the Army - that he had obtained a good home for them in the North. They were taken in June 1866 by Miss. Sallie Lobba teacher at the farms - to O. Brien - who at that time was in Alexandria, Va. E.F. O'Brien can give the necessary information. (Sg'd) E.B. Gates Capt. V.R.C. & A.S.A.C. Bu. R.F.& A.L. Hd. Qrs. 10th S. Dist. Va. Alexandria, Va. Oct. 9th 67. Respectfully returned to Bvt. Brig: Gen'l O. Brown, Asst. Comr. Va.
