No record can be found, in this office of the papers herein named, after Sept. 21st 1866. How were they sent? O. Brown Bvt: Brig: Genl. Vols. Asst. Comr: Va. R.306.3.V.67. War Dept: Bu: &c: Bu. R.F. & A.L. Office 1st Div: 1st S.D. Va. Norfolk, Va. Nov: 21st 1867. Respectfully returned to Bvt. Maj: J.H. Remington, S.A.C. I have made diligent search for Thomas Williams but have failed to find him. I can find no one who knows him. The books of C.C. Brown, Agent in this city for Wolfe Hart & Co. shows that a Thomas Williams of Co. "H" 36th U.S.C.T. was paid by Wolf Hart & Co. in May last Brown states that he forwarded a claim for Thomas Williams of C.C. 37th U.S.C.T. but has no Record of it on his books and cannot tell at what date it was sent up. I would respectfully call attention to the date of the application "May 14th 1867" and date of receipt by Wolf Hart & Co. "May 16th 1867" and suggest whether there is not some mistake in the date. (Sgd.) Ed. Murphy 1st Lt V.R.C. & A.S.A.C. Bu. R.F. & A.L. Hd. Qrs. Asst. Comr: Va. Richmond, Va. Nov: 30th 1867. Respectfully forwarded to Maj: General O.O. Howard, Comr. inviting attention to accompanying papers and Endorsement of Lt. Ed. Murphy, A.S.A.C. It appears from these papers, That the retained bounty of Thomas Williams, has been paid to the wrong party. O. Brown Bvt: Brig: Genl. Vols. Asst. Comr. Va. H.145.3.V.67. Stone, J.R. Bvt: Maj: & S.A.C. 595 Bu. R.F. & A.L. Hd. Qrs. Asst. Comr. Va. Richmond, Va. Nov: 30th 1867. Respectfully referred Bvt: Maj: J.R. Stone, S.A.C. for a copy of the Record of the Court in this case. O. Brown Bvt: Brig: Genl. Vols. Asst. Comr. Va.
