Brown Bvt: Brig: Genl. Vols. Asst. Comr: Va. War Depart: Bu: &c 577 1 Vol 1868 - 35 K30.3.V.67 Received back Dec 10th 1867. Bureau R. F and A. Lands Office 1st Div: 6th Sub. Dist Va. Fredericksburg Va. Dec 7th 1867 Respectfully returned to Bvt. Lt. Col. James Johnson, S.A.C. with the information that there is no such person as Diannah Dixon residing in Fredericksburg. Brown, and was the slave of Doc Cotton, of Surry Co Va. carried the children away from Mr. Spratley. Ellis in 1865 after the surrender of the rebel Armies. (Signed) J.F. Wilcox, Capt. Comr Susan Berry was once an inmate of Howard Grove Hospital under Miss Colton & improved so much under care and treatment that she begs she may be again admitted. There is no Dispensary or Hospital here. Nothing but the Poorhouse. She lost her limb from Frost bite, while a slave. She would earn her board in Hospital, when her legs are healed. Signed Thos P.
