598 employ Charles Chilton, providing his wife and son would remain away from his place. - On account of the large number of freedmen in this County, and the scarcity of work, at the present, I would respectfully request; that Chas. Chilton and family be sent to some other County, where there are less freedmen. I am confident that he could not make a support for himself and family at this place. (Signed) B.F. Shaum Bvt.
