Winston tells me, that she laid her ring on a Bureau and the girl Martha was passing in and out and stayed in the room all night. She is certain, Martha took the ring. Gaines. has given a statement of his acct: to Lettie Palmer counsel which is as follows, $143.34/100 Cash in hand and a judgment against John Gaskins, for $300.00/100 with interest from January 1st 1867. Wm. Gaines refuses to give a copy of his indebtedness to the Estate - to me, as Lettie Palmer has commenced suit and he was ready to pay over to Mrs. Palmer all in his hands upon receipt of an order from Court. I can see no way of investigating further in the matter, until it is disposed of in Court. I have instructed Capt.
