Vol 1st 1868.- [[/left margin]] Respectfully returned to Genl S.C Armstrong, Agent in Charge 5th Sub District. Does the within named building belong to this Bureau, or to the Q.M. Department.- O. Brown Bvt. Brig: Genl. Vols. A.130.3d Vol. 1867 Virginia, 1st Mil. Dist. War Department Adjt. Generals Office Washington, Decemr 19th 1867. Respectfully referred to Bvt Major General J.M. Schofield, U.S.A who will forward all the information called for within, so far as relates to this District, to this office. By order of the Secretary of War (Sgd) E.D. Townsend Asst. Adjt. Genl, H'd Qrs. 1st Military District, Richmond, Va Decem 27/67 Respectfully referred to Bvt. Brig. Genl, O. Brown, Asst Commissioner, Bur R.F. and A.L. Dist of Va. with request that he will furnish any information in regards for this matter that may be obtained from the records of his Office. By Command of Major Genl J.M. Schofield (Sgd) S. F. Chalfin A.A.G. Bureau R.F. and A.L. H'd Qrs. Asst. Com'r of Va., Richmond, Va. Decem 30/67. 645. Respectfully returned to Bvt. Col. S. F. Chalfin, A.A. Genl. No information can be obtained from the records of this office, in regards to this matter, O. Brown Bvt. Brig. Genl. Asst. Commissioner, A.714. 3d Vol.-1867. Armstrong S.C. Agent. &c. 612. Received back, Decem 30/67 Bureau R.F & A.L. H'd Qrs, 5th Sub Dist. Va. Fort Monroe, Va Dec 23/67 Respectfully returned to the Asst. Commissioner, Dist of Va. [[left margin]] 612. [[/left margin]] The sale of building at Public Auction, as within requested, would probably cause some suffering to the freedman occupants but if they could be sold to the occupants at a fair appraisal, the difficulty would be overcome. The matter method I would respectfully urge. (Sgd) S. C. Armstrong Agent in charge 5th Sub Dist. Bureau R.F and A.L H'd Qrs. Asst. Com'r of Va Richmond, Va. Decem 30/67.
