NARA0500 Brownsville Tenn May 7th 1878 Capt H. S. Hawkins Dear Sir: I enclose you the Affidavits of in the Case of Henry C Thomas, We have made the best proof in our power to make from the fact there is not a Soldier in Tennessee that we Know of, who served in the War with Thomas, his Company and Regiment was made up, in and around Washington City. And in my application for bounty before the department which Allowed the Claim I had to make it without the benefit of any such witnesses- but I made quite a full affidavit for him to Swear to in which I made him name the officers and a good Many privates in his Company &c upon which his Claim was allowed by the department We can not make any better Standing before you
