Hampton, Calhoun County, Arkansas October 30th 1865 Captain Carhart Agent Freedmans Bureau Camden Ark. Sir, I have the honor of making application for an Agency of the Freedmen in this County for the next ensuing year. The people are desirous of procuring laborers for the next year, and an effective Agency here will be very Convenient, and will materially benefit both Classes of the population. I am with high regard Your Obt Servt J.H. Scroggins Hampton Arkansas Oct 30th 1865 Captain: we the Civil Officers of Calhoun County would most respectfully recommend John H. Scroggins, Esq., to your favorable Consideration, for a Freedmans Agent in this County; as a man of energy, dispatch, and ability, and well suited to the position.
