War Department, Bureau Refugees Freedmen, etc, Washington, Aug. 9, 1865. Respectfully referred to Brig. Genl. J.W. Sprague, Asst. Commissioner, &c St. Louis Mo. who will please investigate the within case, and if the property was not "abandoned" restore it to the owner, if in his possession. By order of Maj. Gen. O.O. Howard. Commissioner &c Wm Fowler Capt and Asst. Adjt. Genl. E.B. Page 19. War Department Bureau R.F. & A L. Washington Aug. 11/65 Genl. The property within mentioned would be transferred to Mr Timms by an order from this office, but it appears from the indorsement of the Treasy. Agent that the property has been entered in his book, as "Aband," and it may [[crossed out] to [[/crossed out]] have been turned over to you as such.
