Colonel, As there still remains quite an amount of "Abandoned Lands" upon the returns of this office located in your sub district, and as much of it is occupied by the former owners, who abandoned it, and who through contempt of the Government, and of the President's Authority [[end page]] [[start page]] decline to make any application under the orders approved by him for its restoration - the Asst Commissioner directs that you give notice to all such persons, that the property coming under the head of "Abandoned Lands" held by the Government, and now on your returns, will be formally taken possession of on the 1" of January next and rented to refugees and freedmen in accordance with the provisions of the Bureau law.
