COPY for Mr. Seligman.

January 30th., 1959.

Dear Dr. Conran:

In going through some memoranda a few days ago, I found a reference to some sculpture in the Cook Collection, which came as rather a surprise to me as I have never seen a catalogue or heard you mention sculpture as an important part of the Collection.

These pieces of sculpture were loaned on exhibition and were Renaissance in period. If they still exist as part of the Cook Collection, would it be possible for me to have photographs and data regarding them, as well as your idea as to whether they would be among the items with which the Trustees would part? And, of course if so, at what figures? Anything you are able to tell me about them would have great interest for me, even their present ownership, if they have been sold.

I have been reading in our press of the terrific weather conditions which you and most of Europe have been enduring, and while we have had a severe winter, must say that you deserve both sympathy and admiration for the way you have all been enduring the severities. But, if Winter comes, can Spring be far behind? And we do find it possible to envy you your Spring.

I hope that your family and yourself have been enjoying good health despite the weather, and that all goes as you would wish. Looking forward to a few words from you and with kind regards and many thanks, I am

Sincerely yours,

John J. Cunningham

P.P.S. At long intervals, one sees references to this or that painting acquired from The Cook Collection. Are there at this time, any available paintings?
