April 18th., 1961

Dear Countess de Zogheb:

It is now a long time since the matter of the statue has been discussed between us and of course at that time, certain family reasons together with the "prior claims" so called, of another party, were making a decision impossible.

Would you like to send me a few lines to let me know whether matters have been cleared up enough to permit some definite conversations. And, if they now permit your giving me an idea of the amount being asked, so much the better. Also, in that case, whether the export permit is in good order, since that permission would be essential.

In closing let me ask whether you have any other ideas of importance which I might be considering in advance of my planned trip to Europe at the end of May.

With very pleasant memories of our last meeting and looking forward to hearing from you at an early moment, I am,

Sincerely yours,

John J. Cunningham

Countess Isabelle de Zogheb,
9, Viale Mazzini,
Rome, Italy.

G.S. The very pleasant memories included an expensive lunch.....and that for me was not so pleasant as I am no lover of Italian cookery. I haven't much hope in this matter as in her last letter she said the other people still claimed prior rights, that several members of the family had died, complicating matters, and her uncle, Count SCELSI was very ill.
