[[underlined]]COPY FOR MR. SELIGMAN.[[/underlined]]

November 19th., 1960.

Dear Doctor Sanchez Canton:

Let me thank you for your amiable letter of the 29th September which has been awaiting my return from a journey in the North.

Naturally, I am very interested in the thoughts you express in regard to the "DESCENT" though I cannot be otherwise than disappointed. However, since you have been so good as to give consideration to the matter and have permitted me to presume upon your time and patience, perhaps you would indulge me further and allow me access to your opinion as to it's authorship. I would not venture to suggest this but for the fact that you were kind enough to recognize great merit in the painting. And too, I feel that when one must in all conscience dismiss an authorship, it is usually because [[underlined]]another author's image[[/underlined]] is forcefully called to mind. Could I be wrong in assuming this?

Since the transparency and the brochure of photographs were sent to you on my own initiative, I must assume the expense of having your office air-mail them back to me. With this in mind and with appreciation for the effort involved, I am enclosing an order which I hope may prove to be adequate. If it should not be, I shall quickly remit any balance due. And I shall be grateful to have the material on my desk, with perhaps an inkling of your views.

Once again, my thanks Senor Sanchez Canton, and believe me,

Sincerely yours,

John J. Cunningham
