September 15th., 1960.

Dear Doctor Sanchez Canton:

I am glad to be able to send you today, the photographs promised in my letter of August 15th., of some of the significant details from "THE DESCENT FROM THE CROSS", and also, for comparison only, some details from the Barcelona "PIETA" and "THE SHROUD OF PURITY", both of course, well known to you.

As arranged in juxtaposition, many "family" characteristics shared by the [[strikethrough]] two [[/strikethrough]]^[[three]] paintings will be apparent to you, thus I hope strengthening your expressed option that the "DESCENT FROM THE CROSS" would be a valuable acquisition for the collections of the Museo del Prado.

Since from the beginning, I have had this conviction, please be assured, Senor Director, that any suggestion which might implement such a desirable program, will receive my most careful consideration.

Sincerely yours,

John J. Cunningham

Senor Dr. Francisco Javier Sanchez Canton,
Director of the Museo del Prado,
Madrid, Spain.
