Dear Waldo -

Mrs. Schmitt has just called me up to say that she had received a telegram from you saying that all mail should in the future be addressed to Punta Arenas - so here goes!

We have been wondering where you were as we do not see your diary until about a month after you write it. Was surprised to learn that you were still at Valpariso. Have been wondering if after all you went to Juan Fernandez. Mr. Bryant told me why you had abandoned the trip and I must say that I can not blame you. I hope everything has been going all right with you and that you are not having any serious troubles. The case which you sent up by Carl Schmitt came a few days ago. The contents was in good shape and the little Inca pot in perfect condition. In fact everything so far received, with the possible exception of the large land crabs, has been in fine shape. Amphipods do not seem to be as numerous on the west as on the east coast judging by your catch. We have of course been very much interested in your diary and I am glad you had a good interview with Porter. Shall be glad to hear all about him when you return.

Capt. Bartlett was in yesterday. He hopes to go north again this summer and will be in the Northern part of Hudson Bay. This time he want to take a complete collecting outfit so that he can get us a fine lot of material. We received from him in November a fine lot of material
