Dear Waldo - 
  We hoped to have word from you by now, but so far have not, though the three packages which you addressed to yourself on the "high seas" have arrived. I suppose you are well into your work by now and no doubt getting wonderful things, and I wish I were along to help you. I hope everything is going well and that you have not had any great difficulties, but experience is the best teacher and you will be all the better prepared for next year's trip. 
 Now to begin with - we miss you like the devil - this does not seem like the same place. I just do not allow myself to think of the time between now and January. Everything is moving along very smoothly as nothing of any great importance has come up. The most excitement that has happened was the discovery that
