Museum ought not have furnish them but that they should come out of your fund, and besides Mr. Denmark said he had no die for cutting them. I did not see any hope of getting them so I told him to let the matter drop and I would have them made outside, but I could not get them made outside in less than two weeks. Mr. Knowles as usual came to the rescue and said "Why don't you go to Summervilles and have him make you a die and buy the rubber your self and have Washington cut them out"? This is what I did. The die cost $1 and the rubber $5.44 and the labor of Washington and myself nothing. After the job was completed and the cases in Perry's office Mr. Ravenel sent the requisition back to me with a note saying "Ask Mr. Knowles to get bids for material and submit requisition covering same." How is this for a sample of Government efficiency?
We got Keller's outfit off O.K. and he left in high good spirits as usual.
