For Prize Contest

I used to think that golf was the ideal game for my idle hours. What changed my mind was some sweet corn - Golden Bantam picked in a neighbor's garden within an hour before it was served to me at his dinner table. That corn made me decide that it might be better to spend part of my spare time in my back yard instead of on a golf course. Every year since then, more and more of my yard has gone into garden, until now Burpee's seeds have just about ruined by golf game.

So now I swing a hoe instead of a driver and find that it is even better exercise. When my peas are the earliest in the neighborhood, I get just as much thrill as a hold-in-one could have given me. The friendships made over the back fence are just as happy as those of the gold club. My spare time is spent with my youngsters instead of away from home. And - although this is not nearly so important as these other benefits - Burpee's seeds pay me a fine return for my spare time, in place of the expenses incidental to golf.
