I imagined the rows of vegetables across my little plot of ground to be like the long ones pictured in Burpee's catalogue; and took great pride in them for every seed developed into a perfect, thrifty plant.

In the fall the vegetables sold for enough to supply my need of money to spend for fun and school books.
 
Crops from Burpee's seeds sown in later years helped me through college, and now are making my farming pleasant and profitable.
