The mail had come, "Burpee's Catalogue! Good: Now we can plan our garden."

Some time ago a physician told me to build up nerve and bodily vigor by working out of doors every day enough to perspire freely.

I chose gardening, hence my delight at seeing the catalogue.

I am sorry for those who have not known the joy of planting a garden. With all attendant pleasures, clear air surging buds, droning bees, fragrant orchards.

Never was work accomplished by such wholesome pleasure, not the least of which is watching the first tiny shoots. Helping them hold their own by destroying their enemies.

Every morning I hurried house work to get in garden with hoe and weeder.

Never did money and labor bring better results. We had an abundance of fresh vegetables, besides the joy I got and good blood and steady nerves ,from exercising in God's outdoors and blessed sunshine.

The best of all exercise is that which has a definite object, and I know of no object better worthwhile, than to buy reliable seeds and get busy in a garden.
